Artist Talk with Addison Karl at RAINMAKER GALLERY, Bristol

When: 26th April 3pm-4pm - 2024
Where: RAINMAKER GALLERY - 140 Whiteladies Road, Clifton Bristol BS8 2RS
What: Join us for a special Artist Talk with multi-award-winning Native American sculptor Addison Karl. Hear about his fascinating artistic and geographical journey from his birthplace in Denver, Colorado to his current creations of Murano Glass Sculpture in Italy.

Addison Karl is deeply connected to his Chickasaw and Choctaw heritage. His intricate sculptures are the result of meticulous research and cross-disciplinary approaches to materials, themes, and techniques. His bronze work features innovative patinas, transforming the appearance of the metal to evoke turquoise gemstones. This speaks to the cultural importance of turquoise in Indigenous art and a personal connection of growing up in Arizona.

Since making a connection in Europe Karl has immersed himself in the art of glass casting under the tutelage of Murano glass maestro Giorgio Giuman. Venetian glass trade beads played a central role in historical relations between Indigenous people and European settlers and this history is explored in Addison Karl’s exquisite sculptures.

Rainmaker Gallery is delighted to welcome Addison Karl to Bristol.
